Hi! I’m Cindi.
I’ve been an avid gardener for nearly 50 years! Back when I lived in Kentucky and Indiana, my gardening routine was simple. I’d start planting during Memorial Day weekend and wrap things up by Labor Day weekend.
Then, the big move to Florida happened. I still recall the excitement of going to my local Frank’s Nursery and Crafts store to plant red, white, and blue annuals in a special spot in my front yard for Memorial Day.
Despite my best efforts, the relentless Florida sun and heat proved too much for these annuals. In just two weeks, they withered away. Determined to understand my mistake, I researched and found out I had planted them at the wrong time for Florida’s gardening conditions. Lesson learned!
Gardening has its joys, but for us in Zone 10A, it brings unique challenges like:
- Hot, humid summers
- Cool, sometimes cold, low-humidity winters
- Rainy seasons, including hurricanes
- Dry seasons with drought conditions
- Sandy soil
- Pests and diseases
This blog will be your guide to Florida gardening throughout the year. I’ll share my experiences, offer suggestions, and discuss gardening methods that might work for you too.
While gardening here may have its difficulties, with knowledge and adaptability, you can cultivate a garden that thrives in this unique environment. Embrace the learning process, celebrate small victories, and let your Zone 10A garden be a testament to your green thumb triumphing over adversity. Happy gardening!
