September Musings: Where I’ve Been and Where We’re Going

Dear readers,

It’s been a while since my last post on September 4th, and I wanted to take a moment to touch base with you all. Life has a way of throwing unexpected curveballs, and I’ve been dealing with some medical issues that have left me with low energy and not quite feeling my best. I appreciate your patience and understanding during this unplanned hiatus.

Battling the Elements

As many of you fellow Floridians can attest, this late summer heat has been relentless. The combination of high temperatures, suffocating humidity, and intense sun has made it challenging to spend much time in the garden. I find myself longing for those crisp fall mornings that seem to be perpetually just out of reach.

Looking Ahead: Fall Gardening Plans

Despite the current conditions, I’m starting to get excited about my fall garden. There’s something invigorating about the prospect of cooler weather and new plantings. However, caution is the name of the game right now. With a potential tropical event looming later this week, I’m holding off on starting any seedlings until the threat has passed. It’s a reminder that gardening in Florida often requires flexibility and a watchful eye on the weather.

A Shift in Focus

As I’ve been recuperating and reflecting, I’ve made some decisions about the future direction of my online presence. For the time being, I’ve decided to put “In Between We Garden” on hold. This wasn’t an easy choice, but it feels like the right one for now.

Instead, I’ll be focusing my energy on my prepping site, Sunshine Preppers. My plan is to post twice a week, covering a range of topics. For those of you who’ve come to enjoy my gardening content, don’t worry – there will still be frequent posts about gardening in Zone 10A Florida, as well as broader gardening topics that I hope will interest a wide audience.

A Work in Progress

I’ll be honest – I’m still not entirely convinced that combining my two passions (prepping and Florida gardening) into one blog is the best approach. It’s a bit of an experiment, and I’m open to how it evolves. I value your feedback and input as we navigate this change together.

For now, this feels like a good way to maintain a consistent posting schedule while managing my energy levels. It also allows me to explore the interesting intersections between gardening and prepping, which I think many of you will find valuable.

Looking Forward

As we move into fall (even if the weather doesn’t quite feel like it yet), I’m excited about the content I have planned. From tips on fall planting in our unique climate to discussions on food security and sustainable living, there’s a lot to look forward to.

Thank you all for your continued support and engagement. Your comments, questions, and shared experiences make this community what it is. Here’s to cooler days ahead, bountiful gardens, and being prepared for whatever life throws our way.

Stay tuned, stay prepared, and happy gardening!
